Sandburg Women Pick Up 24 Steals in Blowout of Black Hawk

The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team racked up 24 steals and ran away from Black Hawk for a 77-56 Sophomore Night victory Tuesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Chargers (12-13, 5-2) won their third in a row and for the sixth time in the last eight games.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Sandburg scored 11 of the last 15 in the final 3:12 of the second quarter to take a 39-31 lead into halftime.
  • The Braves (2-20, 0-7) were still within single digits at 51-42 to begin the fourth, but the Chargers opened the period with a 9-2 spurt to break the game open.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Sophomore guard Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) had team and season highs of 17 points and six steals as well as four assists to power the Chargers. Price scored 10 of her points in the second half.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

  • Freshman Cora Neal (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) had 12 points and four steals while shooting 5 of 9 from the floor.
  • Freshman forward Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) and freshman guard Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) each scored eight.

FOR THE BRAVES
Becca Hunt scored 12 to pace Black Hawk. Megan Schueneman and Margie Villaruz each added nine points.

UP NEXT
The Chargers and Braves will finish their home-and-home series at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Moline. Sandburg will wrap up the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Loras JV before beginning the Region IV tournament Tuesday with a quarterfinal matchup.

FRIDAY VS. HIGHLAND CANCELED
The Sandburg men’s and women’s makeup date Friday at home against Highland has been canceled because it will not factor into the Arrowhead Conference championship.
